Quest For Fire

"Chad Ross’ recent Deadly Snakes tenure may be the most boldface-worthy item on his resumé, but it’s his less-publicized gig as a former Black Mountain roadie that provides the instant context for his new band, Quest for Fire (also featuring fellow Snake Andrew Moszynski, Cursed drummer Mike Maxymuik and No No Zero bassist Josh Bauman). Stoner-rock has never been a premium commodity in this town — despite the best efforts of disparate, disconnected ambassadors like Sons of Otis and Nadja — but Quest for Fire’s debut could be the rallying point to unite aged Hendrix hippies and new-school Dead Meadow bong-loaders alike. The album’s track sequence is effectively designed for easy indoctrination, leading off with a four-to-the-floor, radio-single-formatted blast (“Bison Eyes”) that suggests a nefarious plan to lure in Queens of the Stone Age fans, before stretching out to better explore stoner-rock’s pastoral (“You Are Always Loved”), cosmic (“I’ve Been Trying to Leave”) and metallic (“Hawk That Hunts the Walking”) qualities. But Quest for Fire sound most assured when fusing these core components into a hellacious whole, as on the monstrous, Spacemen 3–splattered closer (“Next to the Fire”) — proof that whatever fire these dudes are searching for has most definitely been found. Orchid

"ROCKING HARD with our dark, psych-sonic blues assault ...tearing down the centuries old corruption and tyranny that is organized religion...telling the truth to the sleeping brothers and sisters of this once great nation...undermining the super wealthy and powers that be who have taken hold of this land!

we are ORCHID....sons of the new dawn...the thorn in the heel of hypocrisy...the seeds of cancer in the bloated bellies of the rich...we are YOUR children... YOUR scion who have come back to cut your throat from ear to ear and take the throne. Hide your blonde, fair-eyed daughters...let them cower with your sons...hide your precious live stock for we shall slaughter them all and spit their blood at your tall white gates!! this day is ours...the hour of ORCHID IS UPON YOU!" ~ MySpace

Gas Giant

"GAS GIANT is a 3-piece rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark. Their sound blends influences from classic rock acts of the '60s and '70s like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath with a sound and attitude found in modern bands such as Kyuss and Monster Magnet Yet among contemporary bands in this scene, GAS GIANT stands out clearly, producing mature songs with strong melodies, though without ever forgetting their HEAVY roots! Their songs evolve organically during epic rehearsal jam sessions, but balance sledgehammer riffs with plenty of catchy hooks. And just listen to that guitar. GAS GIANT began life as Blind Man Buff, playing for several years under that name before choosing a new name to reflect their bigger, more spacious sound in 1998. The heavy and spaced out album Pleasant Journey in Heavy Tunes came out in 2000 and opened a lot of doors for the band, but it was first later the same year, things got rolling. They hooked up with drummer Tommy Dan, who had been playing both hardcore/rap scene and various jam bands for a while. The change was the perfect match for the band to move on to new musical levels. The band now sounded like a four piece machine, ready to hit the road with full tilt. In 2003 the album Mana they set the order how to make heavy and spaced out stoner rock in the state of Denmark. The album was the best yet they had archived, and it defined GAS GIANT once more as a big and spacious sound. Known as the Gas Giant sound Individually or together, the band members have been playing for more than 14 years in the Danish music scene." ~ MySpace

The Machine

GO BUY THIS ALBUM! ;)

"The Machine plays heavy, psychedelic rock in a powertrio tradition. The current line-up exists since October 2007. Shortly thereafter, they released their debut album “Shadow of the Machine” on their own in December 2007. This record marked their entry into the stonerrock scene and gained some modest international interest.

The follow up, “Solar Corona”, will be officially released by the band on May 30 2009. This release will be done with the German Nasoni Records and will be available on both CD and (coloured) 2LP vinyl. “Solar Corona” features long, partially instrumental tracks which
contain a lot of diversity. These Dutch guys offer you straightforward heavy riffing, melodic passages and atmospherical soundscapes.

When playing live, The Machine regularly stretches songs by incorporating improvised jams in their sets. Everything’s done with a passion
and chemistry, that a lot of contemporary rock is missing. The band is already writing new material for a next album and has some (inter)-
national shows/tours in their schedule. Be prepared." ~ MySpace

Heirs - Alchera

"Heirs is the marriage of dark and light. The pain and hopelessness of addiction vs the elation of freedom.

The name Heirs originates from an ideal of "hunting and gathering" musical ideas, and formulating these ideas into an improved version. To write music, without paying some sort of tribute to the artists influencing your everyday subconsciousness, is a dishonest practice. The name stands as a allegory - to be the Heirs of a musical history and to expand on this, becoming a part of history themselves.

Heirs began as a solo project by Damian Coward (Maps, Love Like... Electrocution) in late 2006, founded by a importunity to create a personal sound and direction. Heirs expanded its lineup during 2008 and consists of Brent Stegeman (Whitehorse, Love Like... Electrocution) and Ian Jackson (Damn Arms) on guitars, Laura Bradfield on bass and Coward on drums.

Heirs' debut full-length "Alchera" is a 43 minute movement of oppressive instrumental power, cyclic ritualism and bleak hallucinogenic revelation. Recorded at Head Gap Studios by Neil Thomason in the heat waves of Melbourne in Januuary 2009 and mastered by James Plotkin (Isis, Khanate, Burning Witch), the 6 pieces recorded capture the band's live volume - a blanket of sound traversing a rolling dynamic landscape.

Drawing influence from MICHAEL GIRA and his SWANS legacy, the sledgehammer riffs and industrial pummel of GODFLESH, and continuing Stegeman's incense shrouded low-end incantations from his work with doom dealers WHITEHORSE, combined with Jackson's reverb-soaked noise, Alchera strips bare the needless excesses of post-rock and heavy metal in favour of something much more concise and affecting. A lurching, drugged-out specter - holding solace in one hand, and vengeance in the other.

From the seething metallic buzz and bluster of the opening track "Plague Asphyx", through to the crowning low-end turbulence of "Russia", the recording is an archetype for an existence shrouded in confusion, joy, disappointment and addiction.

Heirs are touring Nationally throughout Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Europe/UK for the rest of 2009. Dates can be found on their website - www.heirs.com.au

Thee Oh Sees

"Thee Of Sees has been mostly compared to theB-52’s. They’re not too keen on this comparison, as well they shouldn’t be. Thee Oh Sees have a lo-fi electric-acoustic sound that’s usually soaked in reverb, making it as if you can hear and see the exact room they recorded in. It creates a very distinct mood that fits their style, lyrics, and melodies to a tee.

What most people focus on with them is that Mr. Dwyer is in the band. While it’s certainly a notable quality, the recent band members bring so much more to the table. The earliest recordings are Dwyer’s solo recordings, mostly single instrument/vocal ditties that you can hear him working out. They’re an intimate portrait of John, but without the recent material, the portrait would simply be incomplete.

With the addition of Brigid Dawson, Petey Dammit, and Mike Shoun the sound has grown into the landscape that one man couldn’t create alone. Brigid’s soprano voice brings an almost hauntingly sensitive aspect to the lyrics and melodies, while Petey and Shoun complete the frame in its entirety. " ~

Uptempo Blues Machine

"In 2002 Uptempo Bluesmachines established themselves as a multi-faceted hard rock force of nature. Tight, crisp, rowdy rockers, melodic songs and a series of groovy stoner metal tracks were born.

The intensity, the darkness, the melodies, the drive, all of the above and more, according to Uptempo Bluesmachines frontman Greasy T. Those are the things that define UBM's passion. At the UBM's beginning years they blasted on all fields. With a formation of four guys: Stanny, Greasy T., Marly and Chris Dust, primed to capture the attention and the balls of the rock 'n roll fans. After four years though, the band's set up changed. Chris Dust decided to leave the band. Nevertheless, UBM still fully alive and thirsty, started searching for fresh blood. Eventually found it two new members, named Uncle Sam and Mister Scarecrow. Finding the band spending more time to craft songs, and it shows." ~ MySpace
